🐔🥚⛪ The poultry house of the Cathedral of Santo Domingo de la Calzada
Inside the Cathedral of Santo Domingo de la Calzada, in La Rioja, there is a poultry house built in the mid-15th century, with an alive rooster and an alive hen, to commemorate a miracle that it is said happened to Hugonell, a German boy who was walking in pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela together with his parents.
Hence the Spanish saying: "Santo Domingo de la Calzada, where the hen sang after being roasted".
😉 Do you want to know how the legend goes? Write to me and I'll gladly tell you about it 👍✨

💖👨‍👨‍👧‍👦 I have learnt, more than ever, that life is beautiful, that life is a gift, that moments are unique and that it is wonderful to live them fully and with love.
💖 Travelling gives as the opportunity to embrace the very best version of us and to offer to ourselves and to our beloved ones the abundance and the magic of our souls.
I wish that very soon we will be able to travel safe and confident again.
How fully do you enjoy your travelling?

🏗 Do you know which was the first skyscraper in Spain? I discovered it through the Netfix series "Cable Girls", which my friend Soraya advised me to watch and which I have really loved! And not only because I adore the fashion of the 20-30’s 👗 and since that was the time of the setting, I was fascinated, but because the building where the protagonists worked has a very interesting history!
The Telefónica building, designed by the architect Ignacio de Cardenas Pastor and considered one of the jewels of early 20th century architecture, is a large stone mass located in the centre of Madrid, on the Gran Vía and very often it goes unobserved since it is embedded among the many constructions of this elegant street✨.
It was built as the headquarters of the national telephone company of Spain, between 1926 and 1930. With its 90 m high, and inspired by the American skyscrapers, it was the first skyscraper in Spain and in Europe.
From this building, before its inauguration, the King Alfonso XIII made the first transoceanic telephone call, speaking in 1928 with the president of the United States, Calvin Coolidge, who was in the Washington Chamber of Commerce.
In 1930 it had about 1,800 employees, among which the telephone operators ladies were very important, and who undoubtedly played an important role in the development of communications in Spain and throughout the world.
At that time, when the incorporation of women into the world of work was scarce, they contributed to give an image of modernity to the Company itself and to Madrid 💪.
Today, the building houses the Espacio Fundación Telefónica, a centre dedicated to cultural activity and debate, where exhibitions, workshops and meetings are held, especially focused on the artistic and technological avant-garde.
Will you rise your eyes up to observe it when you pass by next time you go to Madrid 😉?

☕ How is the typical Spanish breakfast?
In Spain, breakfast is usually between 7:00 and 08:30 am.
This changes a bit on weekends, as most Spaniards takes it a bit more calmly and have breakfast between 08:30 and 10:00.
However, in general, you can find bars and cafeterias that serve it even until 11:00.
🚗 It is often the second breakfast as often many people has already had a coffee at home before leaving for the day.
In Spain, sweet breakfasts are loved, but also a salty ones, especially when people is not in a rush.
I personally am very greedy and I love sweets, but for breakfast, I prefer the salty version. In fact, here in Italy everyone looks at me very surprised when (very rarely because I hardly go to the bar) I choose cappuccino with a piece of pizza 😉.
Although Spanish breakfasts have some common characteristics, it is true that in each region you will find excellent local specialties.
👍 I'll tell you very briefly below about some of these regional delicacies, and if you follow my socials you will see that I will keep talking about them in more detail.
We officially kick off the section of My Spain for You dedicated to Spanish breakfasts 👏😋!
Anyway, if you are curious and want to get information about someone specifically, write me in the comments or contact me with DM and I'll tell you about with pleasure.
Manteca colorá: very typical of the traditional breakfasts of Andalusia and Extremadura, the lard flavored with paprika (hence its orange color) is spread on the bread.
Pa amb tomaquet: typical of Catalonia, it is prepared by rubbing the bread with a very juicy tomato.
Churros con chocolate: delicious sweet made with flour, water and salt, covered with sugar. When dipped in hot chocolate, they are even more irresistible 😋
